When her voice collapsed, her operatic singing career ended prematurely. In 1999 she returned to her native Scotland to begin a new career as a travel reporter at BBC Scotland. She expanded her broadcasting career into weather shortly afterwards, then into television news. Ralston has also presented many programmes/features in the classical music field, also other BBC radio/television programmes She is now one of the main weather presenters at BBC Scotland and is heavily involved with charity work in the Glasgow area.
